About hemp and cbd oil
The hemp plant was cultivated for thousands of years in Asia and the Middle East before it found its way to Europe and America. It is an extremely versatile and strong plant. The hemp leaf and flowers contain several compounds, the most well-known of which is Cannabidiol (CBD). In China, hemp seeds have been used as a food for more than 2,000 years.
What is the difference between Pure CBD Oil and CBD Oil CO2 extraction?
The Pure CBD Oil Pure by MediHemp is made through an oil extraction process and is rich in CBD and the valuable flavonoids, terpenes and phenols. CBD Oil Pure has the mild flavour of hemp seed oil.
The CBD Oil from CO2 extraction from MediHemp is made by super critical CO2 extraction. This means a gentle and clean extraction that best preserves the other cannabinoids such as CBDa, CBC, CBN, CBG and CBV. CBD Oil from CO2 extraction has a pungent taste.
CBD oil from CO2 extraction
MediHemp's pure CBD oil Raw from CO2 extraction consists of cold-pressed hempseed oil and CO2 extract from hemp. The hemp seeds are hulled and carefully cold-pressed to preserve all valuable components such as carotene, vitamin E, minerals, omega 3 (gamma-linolenic acid), omega 6 (alpha-linolenic acid) and all amino acids.Through a gentle CO2 extraction process of the hemp flowers, the high-quality hemp seed oil is enriched with the cannaboids CBD (cannabidiol), CBDA (cannabidiol acid), CBC, CBN, CBG, CBV and the valuable flavonoids, terpenes and phenols.
About MediHemp
The family company Medihemp was born a few years ago out of the founders' desire to use all the goodness of Mother Nature to live more pleasantly. They wanted to be less dependent on modern (chemical) drugs, but still be able to fight all kinds of ailments.
The power of hemp had long been known and in sunny Austria (Burgerland), the first 15 ha of hemp were planted among the characteristic grape vines. Not knowing that the pure Medihemp products would be so successful. A lot has happened over the years, including the introduction of CBD capsules and CBG oil. Meanwhile, more than 400 ha are planted with hemp and the end of the growth is not yet in sight.
Medihemp uses its own harvest in more ways than you might think. The organic hemp seed oil in which the CBD extract is dissolved is lovingly made by Medihemp itself. Even the insulation material in the building where Medihemp is located is made from hemp from its own harvest.
Organically produced
All Medihemp products are organically produced and meet strict requirements. Sales, production and export follow the strictest rules in Austria. Feeding organic hemp products ensures that Medihemp is distinctive when it comes to selling CBD products.
Standards
When growing and harvesting Medihemp's fibre hemp, chemicals such as fertilisers, pesticides, antibiotics or artificial additives are never used. The products are not genetically modified and Gamma radiation is also avoided. Medihemp is known to have strict controls on clean agricultural land. For example, the land must have been free of chemicals for at least 3 years before it is used by Medihemp for hemp cultivation.
An organic standard is not just any old thing. For a start, regular inspections are held. Also, organic and non-organic products are separated throughout the process. Medihemp goes much further by using special harvesting machines only for the organic fields and extraction machines only for the organic plant material. Machines are thoroughly cleaned before deployment and the organic end product is stored separately.
Analyses
The oil's production process is closely monitored. A large amount of laboratory testing ensures that Medihemp knows exactly what is going on in the process in order to adjust it if necessary and deliver a consistent product. Medihemp also commissions several independent laboratories to conduct tests. Only when these and Medihemp's own results match, does Medihemp proceed with production.
The process of analysing
Not only the final product is tested, throughout the process from seed to final product, there are test moments for verification. For instance, the seeds are tested for: CBD/CBDa, THC/THCa, heavy metals, pesticides, acidity (PH), peroxide content, aflatoxins, microbiology (enterobacteriaceae, fungi, salmonella, suphitereductin clostridia), moisture content, density, non-soluble impurities in the oil and free fatty acids. As the plants grow, CBD/CBDa and THC/THCa percentage are measured. Just before harvest, the same test is done again to measure the percentages of cannabinoids in the plants. The dried plant material is then tested again for the CBD/CBDa and THC/THCa concentrations as well as for heavy metals, pesticides, acidity, peroxide content, aflatoxins, microbiology (enterobacteriaceae, fungi, salmonella, suphitereductin clostridia), moisture content, density, non-soluble impurities in the oil and free fatty acids.
After extraction, the same points are tested again and also once more when the product is completely ready to be bottled.
Nature is beautiful, but no day is the same
As Medihemp produces natural products, the taste, colour and substance will vary from batch to batch. This is due to the conditions while growing the plants (sun, rain, climate, type of plant, soil composition etc). But it also signals that Medihemp does not add chemicals or other substances to modify the pure CBD oil extract.
The plants produce different values of substances depending on the conditions, so the plants contain a slightly different ratio of cannabinoids, terpenes and more each time. The CBD content is strictly monitored throughout the process. After this process of extraction, a thick CBD paste remains. The thickness is created by the presence of natural waxes.
Better absorption through increased bioavailability
Medihemp's CBD oil Raw now has a new formula which increases its bioavailability. This means that the cannabinoids can be absorbed by the body even better. In addition, Medihemp has found a way to remove these previously mentioned waxes from the extract.
This explains why the Raw CBD oil is lighter in colour and slightly thinner in substance, than before. Finally, of course, the CBD content is measured again in the final product, so that the CBD content always meets the desired standard.
Certification
Not only the products, but also the process around making the oil should meet high standards.
At the time of writing, Medihemp has just moved to a state-of-the-art and much larger location. This immediately incorporated the IFS Food and ICCI quality standards. The IFS Food Standard is a GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) recognised standard for auditing food manufacturers. It focuses mainly on food safety and the quality of processes and products.
To ensure quality and product safety within the hemp industry, Medihemp participates in several initiatives. For example, the Patient Focused Certification (PFC) Programme was created by the Americans for Safe Access Foundation. This programme champions the interests of consumers and healthcare providers to provide high-quality medicinal cannabis products and services.
