What is cbd oil for dogs, cats and other animals?
CBD oil for animals is a dietary supplement containing CBD, which is short for cannabidiol. Like humans, other mammals such as dogs and cats also have a
endocannabinoid system. CBD oil therefore helps animals function in different processes in the body and head in the same way.
CBD is a primary substance from the cannabis and hemp plant. CBD is mainly found in Indica cannabis strains and industrial hemp. CBD is not psychoactive, making CBD oil a legal dietary supplement.
What does CBD oil do for a dog, cat or other animals?
CBD oil can do several things for your dog, cat or other animal. It is known for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, among other things. Think for example of anxiety, fear, skin problems, allergy and (joint) pain.
Which cbd oil is best for your dog or cat?
To make a good choice, we have the following advice tips:
CBD oil flavour
There are a number of
differences between Raw and Pure CBD oil. In this regard, there is a slight preference for the CBD Oil Raw. It has a somewhat spicy taste. If your dog is taste-sensitive/fussy eater, the CBD Oil Raw is more suitable, as it has a mild, mild flavour.
Cats are often taste-sensitive and we therefore recommend the CBD oil Pure.
What percentage of CBD oil for your dog, cat or other pet?
For small animals under 4 kg : 0.2% CBD hemp oil
Such as small dogs like chihuahuas, small cat species like Singapura, and further rabbits, rats and ferrets. For this category of animals, we recommend the lowest percentage of 0.2% CBD hemp oil. This product is unfortunately no longer available since Nov 2022! Therefore, we recommend mixing 1 bottle of CBD oil 2.5% CBD 10ml with 100ml of
hemp seed oil to arrive at a comparable rate of 0.25%.
For animals from 4 kg to 15 kg : 2.5% CBD oil
Such as dogs and cats. For this category of animals, we recommend 2.5% CBD oil.
For medium to large animals from 15 kg : 5% CBD oil
Such as dogs of different breeds. For this category, 5% is the average and most commonly used percentage. Animals in this category we recommend 3%, 5% or 6% CBD oil. Higher concentrations such as 10% are also possible. However, experience has shown that a higher concentration than 6% is rarely given to animals. For horses and cattle, we also recommend starting slowly with 5% or 6% CBD oil.
Dosage cbd oil for dog, cat and other animals
Start with a low dose of 1 or 2 drops. Watch this for 7-10 days so that your animal can also slowly get used to it. Slowly increase the dose and spread it further over the day to preferably 3 doses (or more) per day.
How much CBD oil is a dog, cat or other pet allowed?
Each animal has its own ideal dosage. The dosage is a personal matter and therefore cannot be determined in advance. To discover your dog, cat or other pet's ideal dosage, it is best to build up the dosage slowly per week.
Hemp for animals
Besides CBD oil for dogs and cats, there are also other products based on hemp leaf, hemp seed oil and hemp seed (without CBD). These
dog chews, snacks and cat treats from True Leaf Pet also contain other supporting ingredients such as turmeric, green-lipped mussel, flaxseed, pomegranate, green tea, chamomile and lemon balm.
THC oil for dogs, cats and horses
THC is mainly found in Sativa cannabis varieties. THC is the substance what can cause a "high" effect. Dogs, cats and horses cannot process THC very well. You should also take into account that your animal will get high from it. Unfortunately, your dog, cat or horse cannot indicate when this happens.
The ASPCA (American Animal Protection Agency) has found that THC is actually toxic to dogs, cats and horses. THC poisoning can sometimes cause serious side effects such as vomiting, depression, low blood pressure, strokes, drooling, sleep problems to even coma or death.
THC oil is not legal and is often sold expensively, where you don't know exactly what is in it because there is no control over it.
