What is CBN?

The abbreviation CBN stands for cannabinol. Cannabinol is an active ingredient in cannabis. When you heat cannabis and oxygen is added, a process of oxidation of THC occurs. During this oxidation, THC is converted into CBN. So CBN is actually the end product of THC. Despite THC being a psychoactive substance, CBN as an end product is not. Also, CBN oil is not addictive.

What is CBN Oil?

Very briefly, CBN-Oil is an oil with CBN added to it. CBN-Oil is made in almost the same way as CBD-Oil. The difference is mainly in the type of cannabis used. In industrial hemp and cannabis you buy in shops, there is little CBN. To obtain good CBN, special CBN cannabis is grown under optimal conditions so that the cannabis plant contains high levels of CBN.

How does CBN Oil work?

CBN interacts with the endocannabinoid system. This is a body's own system that regulates all kinds of important body processes and plays a major role in keeping your body and mind in balance. Because many processes are involved in this system, CBN's action is very broad. CBN is recognised as the body's own substance, so it can enhance the healing effects of the endocannabinoid system in your body. Thus, CBN can be used to support the regulation of the processes listed below.
  • Sleep
  • Memory
  • Motor
  • Digestion and appetite
  • Blood pressure

What is the difference between CBN and CBD?

For a long time, CBN was seen as a by-product of cannabis that deserved little attention. But it is now thought that of all cannabinoids, CBN may have the most calming effect. You don't get high from CBN oil, but CBN is known to have a more calming and narcotic effect than, say, CBD. Although similar in action to CBD, its origin is different, as CBN is the product of oxidation. Manufacturers expose THC to heat and light. This causes THC to break down, leaving CBN behind. We list the differences and similarities between CBN and CBD for you: Properties of CBD and CBN that are similar:
  • Target cannabinoid receptors
  • Support a good night's sleep
  • Relax the body
  • Helping with stress
  • Non-psychotropic
Properties specific to CBD:
  • CBDA decarboxylates to CBD when exposed to heat or light
  • Increases the amount of endocannabinoids in the body
  • More studied and better understood
  • Supports mental alertness
Specific properties for CBN:
  • CBN is formed via breakdown of THC
  • Works more relaxing than alerting
  • Much less studied

Combining CBN and CBD

An additional effect of CBN is that it enhances the mutual action of cannabinoids when CBN is used together with another cannabinoid. This is called the entourage effect. You can simply use CBN in combination with other cannabinoids such as CBD oil, CBG oil and CBC oil. Always use with caution if you are also taking THC oil, as CBN can enhance the effects of THC. The effects of CBN have not yet been studied scientifically enough to call it a registered medicine. As more and more positive effects are experienced by users, new insights are expected through increasing research. Users of CBN report as effects that they experience more rest and sleep better. As far as we know, CBN has no side effects.

How to best use CBN oil

Basically, you can use and dose CBN the same as CBD oil. Using CBN is legal and safe. If you use CBN to sleep better, it's best to take the CBN oil half an hour before going to bed so that the CBN can act on the body. Apply the CBN drops directly under your tongue. Let the drops take effect for about half a minute before swallowing. The effect of CBN lasts for about 5 hours. Taking CBN oil is best done in intervals to give your body time to get used to the substance. It is best to start with a few drops and slowly build up the use.

How fast does CBN Oil work?

You should basically notice results within 6 days. You can simply use the CBN oil in combination with other cannabinoids such as CBD oil, CBG oil and CBC oil.
