What is organic clothing?

Compared to cotton or synthetic clothing, organic clothing is made in an eco-friendly way from sustainable materials, such as recycled fabrics, organic cotton and hemp. The best alternative to the 'fast' clothes from the bigger chains is sustainable clothes made from hemp. The hemp plant has a strong natural defence system against pests and grows so fast that weeds have no chance. By nature, the hemp crop has little trouble with pests and weeds. Hemp also has a purifying effect on soil and groundwater. A major advantage of hemp over organic cotton is that it provides much more fibre per litre of water. It grows twice as fast as cotton, provides multiple harvests per year and feels at home in almost any climate. People have been using hemp for centuries. Canvas derived from the word cannabis is very strong and long-lasting. In the golden age, canvas was already indispensable. Ships sailed the world with ropes and sails made of hemp.

Why buy ecological clothing

Although the consequences are large and far-reaching, cotton pollution remains relatively invisible to date. The average consumer is unaware of the impact of this pollution on our environment and looks mainly at the price tag, logo and print. Fortunately, more and more consumers are already becoming a lot more aware. By buying ecological clothing, you already have a good alternative to cheap and quickly produced cotton. With those few euros more for organic cotton clothes, you save the world in general and cotton farmers in particular a serious amount of fertilisers, soil additives and defoliants. Organic cotton clothing combined with hemp helps you save the environment even more. Hemp's fibres are stronger than cotton. This gives garments a longer lifespan, but it also makes them stiffer. By mixing hemp with organic cotton, you get a strong fabric that is soft and comfortable to wear. Mixing organic cotton and hemp, significantly lowers the ecological footprint of organic clothing. Water consumption is reduced and you are also less likely to need to buy new clothes because the addition of hemp makes the fabric more hard-wearing, less stain-prone and anti-bacterial. This gives eco-friendly clothes a longer lifespan.
