Description
AHCC® is a Unique Extract from Shiitake Mycelia with Alpha-Glucans
The name of the product 'AHCC ®' is an abbreviation for 'Active Hexose Correlated Compound'. AHCC ® consists of a complex of nutrients with a unique composition. Vitals' AHCC ® Capsules is manufactured by fermentation of mycelia of the shiitake (Lentinula edodes). The mycelium consists of the underground fungal filaments of the mushroom and usually contains different components than the fruiting body individually. AHCC®'s specially developed production process ensures that this dietary supplement has unique qualities.

Quality
AHCC ® has been produced in Japan since 1989 by the renowned company Amino Up Co. using a fermentation process that has been constantly refined over the years. By starting from the same starter culture for each production, a consistent composition and high quality of the final product can be guaranteed. The patented production process ensures a high content of alpha-glucans; polysaccharides that naturally occur in small amounts in shiitake mycelia. This is in contrast to the fruiting body of the mushroom, which instead contains mainly beta-glucans. The fermentation process takes about 40 days. The mycelia are grown in a specially developed liquid culture medium based on rice bran. During the fermentation process, the mycelia convert components of the medium into other nutrients. This creates the unique composition of AHCC®, which is not comparable to simply dried shiitake powder. After forty days, the insoluble cell components are separated by centrifugation, leaving a liquid ('supernatant') rich in alpha glucans and other nutrients. After freeze-drying, this is finally turned into AHCC® powder, which can be made into capsules. By not using heating anywhere in the production process, the fragile natural components in the extract are preserved.
Producer
Amino Up, like Vitals, has a great passion for quality and invests heavily in the scientific underpinning of the quality of their products. In addition, their production processes and quality system meet the highest standards. This is necessary because mycelia are very sensitive to environmental factors such as temperature, humidity and other micro-organisms. Mushroom mycelia therefore thrive best under strictly controlled conditions and only then provide a nutrient-rich end product. In Japan, Amino Up has collaborated with leading scientists for many years. AHCC® is therefore a widely used dietary supplement there, unlike in Europe where it is not (yet) as well known. AHCC® is a precious and well-kept secret from the East!
