What is Snow Fungus?

The Snow Fungus, or Tremella fuciformis is a fungus. The fungus is the fruiting body of a fungus. The fungus produces fern leaf-like fruiting bodies. The name came about because the fungus can remotely resemble snow when branches are full of it.

Origin of the Snow Fungus Mushroom

You find the Snow Fungus mushroom mainly in the tropics on the dead branches of deciduous trees. In the Netherlands, you find them mostly in spring and late autumn. When forests are moist, the Snow Fungus grows well. Because the fungus is so incredibly popular, it is now grown commercially on wood substrates to meet demand. Mushrooms4Life grows it on hull logs of cottonseed and then uses hot water to extract the bioavailable polysaccharides and important active nutrients from the fungus.

External features

The fruiting body of the Snow Fungus is 1 to 5 cm in size and can remind you of brains because of its pleated structure. The quaking fungus comes in different colours, the white or yellow quaking fungus, which can sometimes also look like almost orange. The fungus tends to vibrate because of its jelly-like consistency, hence the name vibrating fungus.

What is the effect of the Snow Fungus mushroom?
